Laryngoscope blade - The details
This is a MacIntosh blade. These blades are by far the most commonly used in anesthesia, emergency medicine, and critical care. Although it was developed by the British anesthesiologist Robert Reynolds Macintosh, the spellings "McIntosh spatula" or "MacIntosh spatula" are also frequently found. In cross-section, such a laryngoscope blade resembles an inverted "Z" in any case. The tongue is held in position by the wide lower lip of this "Z" to perform the laryngoscopy. In the longitudinal direction, the blade is slightly curved. This allows it to adapt precisely to the shape of the tongue.
The servoprax laryngoscope blade is a disposable blade. It is therefore very hygienic to use and can be disposed of normally after laryngoscopy. Neither autoclaves nor disinfectants are required to prepare the laryngoscope blade for the next patient.
