Ethicon VICRYL Rapide (Polyglactin 910) suture material

The Ethicon VICRYL Rapide surgical suture is characterised by the rapid loss of strength at break. The braided polyfilament loses 50% of its initial strength at break after only 5 days. The resorption time of polyglactin 910 is quite short, at approx. 4-6 weeks. It is especially suitable for the adaptation of soft tissue and for closing conjunctiva. Due to the rapid decrease in strength at break, VICRYL Rapide is not suitable if wound support is required for more than 7 days. Ethicon needles are dimensionally stable and resistant to bending. The attachment of the suture material to the needle is crafted carefully, in order to improve tissue passage.

Optimised packaging

The Ethicon suture is placed on a winding carrier to ensure easy removal of the needle-suture combination. Due to the predetermined shape, the RELAY Tray packaging helps to reduce suture memory. The thread material quickly returns to its original shape after removal and has no kinks. The One-Step RELAY zipper design also allows direct access to the needle without a pull tab, saving time in the operating theatre.

All suture packaging elements, from the box to the RELAY Tray, are marked with unique labelling and an optical colour code. The standardised identification of each suture material helps to minimise errors and enables easy ordering and efficient stock management. The packaging materials such as plastic winding carriers, films and paperboard outer packaging are recyclable. Great importance is attached to environmental compatibility both in product design and in the manufacturing of Ethicon articles.
