Ethicon PDS Plus (Polydioxanone) suture material

The monofilament PDS Plus suture material from Ethicon is a slowly absorbable suture with an antiseptic coating of Irgacare-MP (triclosan). The broad-spectrum bacteriostatic agent minimizes postoperative colonization of the surgical suture and the surrounding tissue. In addition, a bacterial inhibition zone is created around the suture, which reduces the risk of wound infection by 26-28%. The longer-term tensile strength is indicated for all procedures that require a secure hold for up to 6 weeks, e.g. tendon and ligament adaptation. The synthetic suture is also suitable for sutures where delayed wound healing is to be expected. PDS Plus made of polydioxanone has neither antigenic nor pyrogenic properties. It therefore causes only a minimal tissue reaction during resorption.

Optimized packaging

The Ethicon suture material is placed on a wrapping carrier to ensure easy removal of the needle-suture combination. The shape of the RELAY tray packaging helps to reduce suture waste. The suture material quickly returns to its original shape after removal and does not show any kinks. The One-Step RELAY Zipper design also allows direct access to the needle without a pull tab, saving time in the operating room.

All suture material packaging, from the carton to the RELAY tray, is printed with clear labeling and an optical color code. The standardized marking of each suture material helps to minimize errors and enables simple ordering and efficient stock-keeping. The packaging materials such as plastic wrapping carriers, films and cardboard outer packaging are recyclable. Great importance is attached to environmental compatibility both in the product design and in the manufacture of Ethicon articles.
