Intersurgical’s i-gel Plus supraglottic breathing aid is an airway device inspired by perilaryngeal structures. This product has an innovative design, which eliminates the need for cuff inflation and significantly reduces the risk of compression trauma. It is the result of years of research and development and represents the ideal adaptation of the breathing aid to human anatomy. The breathing aid has a very high sealing pressure, reduces postoperative complications and increases the success of the first insertion due to its easy handling. In addition, i-gel Plus is equipped with a gastric channel, which is normally only found in special instruments. I-gel Plus can be used in a temperature range of -20°c to 40°C, and neither the outside temperature nor the patient’s body temperature have any influence on its function or effectiveness. It can therefore be used both in hypothermic and fibrotic patients. The sealing principle is based on the anatomical shape of the cuff and on the use of a water-based lubricant that seals small leaks and creates an adhesive effect.
