Dermatoscopes – Early Detection in Dermatology
Are you looking for a dermatoscope for performing optimal non-invasive examinations on your patients? DocCheck Shop is the right place for you! We offer a large selection of high-quality dermatoscopes from top manufacturers such as HEINE Optotechnik, Spengler and LUXAMED. You will find an overview of our products and its details below, so you are able to choose the product that suits your needs the most.
What are dermatoscopes?
Dermatoscopes are medical instruments that enable the examination of all the skin’s layers. In order to reduce the skin’s surface’s reflection, an interface fluid is also applied. This makes the surface more transparent. This procedure will make the health professional possible to detect, examine, and treat tissue changes as early as possible. The dermatoscope’s head has an integrated examination light that functions like a magnifying glass.
When are dermatoscopes used?
Dermatoscopes are used primarily in the detection of skin cancer (melanoma and other skin cancer forms). However, they are also suitable for determining and differentiating other skin lesions or structures. Misdiagnosis can thus be reduced and even avoided.
These diagnostic instruments are also used to detect foreign bodies (e.g. splinters), tissue hemorrhages, and parasites (e.g. scabies).
What are the different types of dermatoscopes?
The dermoscopy field has seen a considerable technology advancement within the last years. Today, we differentiate between classic/traditional dermatoscopes, which have an integrated magnifying system, and digital ones. Depending on the particular model, the digital devices can, among other things:
- Show extremely sharp and clear images with high color fidelity
- Allow for even more precise result evaluations
- Create and manage databases more easily (keyword: long-term documentation)
- Require less contact to the patient (and are thus more hygienic)
What you should ask yourself before deciding on a product
To make sure you purchase the right dermatoscope for you, you should consider beforehand the following questions:
- What kind of examinations do I want to perform with my new dermatoscope?
- Am I looking for a traditional or a digital device?
- Should the dermatoscope have a LED or halogen light?
- How much should the instrument be able to magnify? Is, for example, a 10x zoom enough?
- Do I want to perform examinations with less contact or with no contact at all?
