Ethicon VICRYL Plus (Polyglactin 910) suture material

The surgical suture material VICRYL PLUS of the Ethicon brand is coated with an antibacterial agent. The synthetic thread made of braided polyglactin 910 is an absorbable copolymer. The antiseptic coating with triclosan is effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria. Thus, the postoperative colonisation of the suture as well as the surrounding tissue is successfully minimised. The resulting bacterial inhibition zone around the suture reduces the risk of wound infection by 26-28%. At the same time, the tensile strength and material resorption are not affected by the coating. The ready-to-use needle-thread combinations are available in different versions.

Optimised packaging

The Ethicon suture material is placed on a winding carrier to ensure easy removal of the needle-suture combination. Due to the predetermined shape, the RELAY Tray packaging helps to reduce suture memory. The thread material quickly returns to its original shape after removal and has no kinks. The One-Step RELAY zipper design also allows direct access to the needle without a pull tab, saving time in the operating theatre.

All suture packaging elements, from the box to the RELAY tray, are printed with clear labelling and an optical colour code. The standardised identification of each suture material helps to minimise errors and enables easy ordering and efficient stock management. Packaging materials such as plastic winding carriers, films and paperboard outer packaging are recyclable. Great importance is attached to environmental compatibility both in product design and in the manufacturing of Ethicon articles.
