The periodontometer is one of the basic dental instruments. For early detection of periodontal disease, it is essential to determine the depth of gingival pockets. With the help of the markings of this probe, the Periodontal Screening Index (PSI) can be obtained to assess the severity of the disease progress.

Bacterial inflammation of the periodontium leads to the formation of gingival pockets. As the disease progresses, the jaw bones may even recede and the teeth may fall out. Since this process is usually painless, it is particularly important to diagnose periodontitis at an early stage. This periodontal probe can be used to determine the roughness of the tooth surfaces in the gingival pockets, as well as the pocket depth. For this purpose, the periodontometer is provided with a colored division in 3 mm intervals (3, 6, 9, 12mm), so that the depth can be read off immediately. The metal handle fits comfortably in the hand and the roughened surface ensures safe handling even under difficult conditions. In addition, the instrument can be easily cleaned and sterilized in an autoclave.
