The Abbott Panbio™ COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test (Nasal) is designed for direct detection of acute SARS-CoV-2 infection. The diagnostic antigen test works by swabbing the anterior nasal region. Due to the shallow insertion depth of about 2 cm, sample collection is particularly patient-friendly. This minimizes the typical unpleasant side effects often described by the patient with conventional SARS-CoV-2 antigen tests, such as coughing, sneezing or gag reflex. Reduced training requirements enable widespread use at the point-of-care. The test result appears on the test cassette within 15 minutes.
Improved usability & sustainability compared to its predecessor
The new version of the Panbio COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test has been designed with a focus on sustainability, transportability, functionality and ease of use. Instead of separate extraction tubes, caps and a bottle of buffer solution, the new version now includes pre-filled buffer tubes with integrated drip cap. In order to reduce the amount of waste, the length of the swabs has also been reduced from 15 cm to 8 cm, and the tube holder has been reduced from 9 holes to 5. This has made it possible to downsize the packaging and reduce paper waste.

Information for service providers
Billing: Please check with your health insurance association (KV) before placing your order, as these may vary from region to region. With the entry into force of the new coronavirus test regulation by June 30, 2022, the health insurance benefits for the performance of rapid antigen tests include material costs of a maximum of € 2.50 and treatment costs of a maximum of € 7 per test. If the person to be tested does not meet the requirements for a free antigen rapid test, a co-payment of € 3 is incurred, which reduces the treatment cost flat rate to a maximum of € 4. Tests without cause can be billed as IGEL services. This rapid antigen test is listed on the list of the European Commission for COVID-19 rapid antigen tests .
Please note: The dispensing of these tests is exclusively to physicians, medical institutions, educational institutions, government agencies and companies, critical infrastructure and other institutions according to Medical Devices Dispensing Ordinance (source: Federal Ministry of Health). This test is not a Corona self-test and is not approved for self-testing by lay persons according to §11 paragraph 1 of the Medical Devices Act (MPG).

Bisher präziser, als andere Tests
Das ist unser Test der Wahl, immer zuverlässig getestet. Leider lässt die Qualitätsprüfung zu, dass in einzelnen Boxen Inhalte fehlen. So ist es schon häufiger vorgekommen, dass keine Nasenabstrichtupfer dabei waren und somit die ganze Packung unbrauchbar ist.
Sehr gutes Handling und hohe Zuverlässigkeit.
Die Panbio COVID-19 nasal Tests von Abbott sind zwar deutlich teurer als diverse no-names, aber dafür deutlich empfindlicher. Wir haben viele Fälle, in denen sich Probanden nach einer Corona Infektion mit Selbsttests aus dem Drogeriemarkt negativ getestet haben und wir anschließend mit Panbio nasal immer noch ein (schwach) positives Ergebnis erhalten haben. Manchmal laufen allerdings Panbio Tests schlecht oder gar nicht, wir vermuten, es liegt an zu viel Schleim. Andere Tests sind da weniger anfällig.
