Otoscopy – The importance of the otoscope in medicine
Otoscopy is the examination of the external auditory canal and the eardrum with the aid of an otoscope. The first, simple ear funnel which is attached to the otoscope today was developed by Jean-Pierre Bonnafont in the first half of the 19th century. Today, an otoscope is a thoroughly complex instrument, which is indispensable for ENT doctors and hearing aid acousticians in particular. An otoscope is used to find damage in the auditory canal, to make diagnoses and, of course, to determine treatment methods. Otoscopy is the fastest and most efficient way to examine the ear – so the otoscope remains one of the doctor’s most important diagnostic instruments.
The classic otoscope
Modern otoscopes are not much different from their old-fashioned precursor. Classic otoscopes consist of a handle with a battery or a charging handle with a rechargeable battery. These energy sources provide the bright light needed for otoscopy. The light source uses mainly LED or halogen illumination. The ear funnel is located on the front of the otoscope head. An especially handy and energy-saving otoscope is, for example, the Heine Mini 3000, or the KaWE Piccolight. Also inexpensive otoscopes illuminate the auditory canal well and offer multiple magnification of the examination field. A reliable diagnostic instrument with a fair price is, for example, the otoscope of our own brand DocCheck. Many otoscopes can be ordered with three different lamps, depending on your preference. This way, you have exactly the right diagnostic instrument for your purpose and are perfectly equipped!
Otoscope heads – the right attachment for otoscopy
Otoscope heads are available in various designs. In the DocCheck Shop you will find a large selection of heads from brand manufacturers such as Heine, the world’s leading manufacturer of primary diagnostic instruments. Heine diagnostic instruments are characterised by excellent quality and durability. Choose between incandescent, LED or halogen illumination for your otoscope head. Depending on the model, 3x or 4.2x magnification is possible – for precise otoscopy.
Battery & charging handles – The perfect handle for your otoscope
Choose a battery handle or a charging handle for your otoscope. With a battery handle, it is very easy to replace the battery, so that your otoscope is always ready for use. The convenient price and the mostly wear-free durable material are also plus points. The energy-saving rechargeable batteries of a charging handle are charged on a station, which is often equipped with a quick-charge function and charging status display. You can store your otoscope safely on this station, so the handle is always ready for the next examination.
Replacement lamps – Always perfectly equipped
Your otoscope’s lamp is broken and no longer suitable for an otoscopy? Stock up and always be ready for the next examination. In the DocCheck Shop you will find a large selection of different lamps and bulbs, so that your otoscope will soon shine in the right light again.
Ear funnels & accessories – Everything for otoscopy
To perform hygienic otoscopy, the ear funnel must either be changed or cleaned. For this purpose, there are disposable or reusable ear funnels. Other accessories like tip adapters, dispensers, and other attachments are also available in the DocCheck Shop.
